How I got to be The BEAST PAGE 3 Lesbian
Superhero: The indistinct, but powerful cultural
imperative of diversity has inevitably trickled
down: to comic books. And its shallowness as a
“movement” laid bare-again. Despite pleading with readers to “Judge us by
the story and character we create,” DC Comics VP and Executive Dan DiDio
admitted, “We’re trying for overall diversity in the DC universe.” He added
that DC has “strong African-American, Hispanic and Asian characters.” But,
readers don’t fret. DiDio insists “This is not just about having a gay character.”
Indeed, Batwoman will be a socialite by day. So, really it’s about
having a wealthy gay character. Now that’s diversity in the Bush era.
Future Plans: Fighting crime, munching carpet
and battling evil Democrats
to repeal the estate tax. You know, so I’m more “relatable.”
How I’d like to be Remembered: As a gay superhero
socialite who was so
much more-even if I wasn’t. Please?
