BEASTcast episode 10: Bunting/Murphy (mp3)

In this Very Special BEASTcast, I talk to BEAST editor-in-chief Ian Murphy about his recent run for Congress to represent the 26th District of New York. We all know that it is illegal to make fun of thin-skinned local television personalities, but is it still illegal when an editor of a satirical website does it? Did Murphy break into his opponent’s phone bank in order to obtain incriminating evidence? And what’s up with escalating the war in Indochina to Cambodia and Laos? These questions and many more will be answered.

BEASTcast episode 7: Harold Camping (mp3)

Harold Camping is a Christian radio broadcaster and president of Family Radio. He is the man behind the recent nationwide billboards which warn commuters that The Jesus will return to Earth on May 21, 2011. We talk about his prediction, the Bible, how there are actually 12 hours in a day and not 24, and puppies. Will I be convinced and start believing in God and The Jesus? You will have to listen to find out.

There are a few things I’d like to make note of about this interview.

  1. Here is the interview I referred to regarding the International Date Line.
  2. Here is Eternal Earthbound Pets, which we did not discuss but is totally relevant.
  3. The third voice you hear popping in a couple times to clarify things between Camping and me is Tom Evans, Mr Camping’s media contact guy.
  4. The vacuum cleaner you can hear from time to time is on Camping’s end. Apparently they are still vacuuming the floors a week and a half before the rapture.
  5. Towards the end we were disconnected. I don’t know why, but you’ll hear an indication of that when you get to it.
  6. The question about faith and Christianity refers to the story of doubting Thomas. And by that I mean the story from John 20, especially verse 29 – not the Skinny Puppy side project.
  7. I know this was a pretty softball interview, especially by BEAST standards, and I had a lot more critical questions, but they mostly depended on him accepting that he hypothetically could be wrong, and he was not willing to do that.

Here is an interview with Sanal Edamaruku. He is the founder and president of Rationalists International and the president to the Indian Rationalist Association and has dedicated much of his life to exposing gurus, godmen, medical quacks, and others making supernatural claims for the frauds they are. In 2008, he challenged a tantrik to kill him live on television before an audience of several hundred million people. Most recently, he’s drawn attention for his public criticism of Sathya Sai Baba, a very famous and influential “godman” who died recently.

Here is the Rationalist International.

Here is the Indian Rationalist Association.

Here is Guru Busters, a documentary featuring Edamaruku and other prominent Indian skeptics.

Here is Edamaruku’s recent article, “India would have been a better place without Sathya Sai Baba.”
