BEASTcast 7: Harold Camping

BEASTcast episode 7: Harold Camping (mp3)

Harold Camping is a Christian radio broadcaster and president of Family Radio. He is the man behind the recent nationwide billboards which warn commuters that The Jesus will return to Earth on May 21, 2011. We talk about his prediction, the Bible, how there are actually 12 hours in a day and not 24, and puppies. Will I be convinced and start believing in God and The Jesus? You will have to listen to find out.

There are a few things I’d like to make note of about this interview.

  1. Here is the interview I referred to regarding the International Date Line.
  2. Here is Eternal Earthbound Pets, which we did not discuss but is totally relevant.
  3. The third voice you hear popping in a couple times to clarify things between Camping and me is Tom Evans, Mr Camping’s media contact guy.
  4. The vacuum cleaner you can hear from time to time is on Camping’s end. Apparently they are still vacuuming the floors a week and a half before the rapture.
  5. Towards the end we were disconnected. I don’t know why, but you’ll hear an indication of that when you get to it.
  6. The question about faith and Christianity refers to the story of doubting Thomas. And by that I mean the story from John 20, especially verse 29 – not the Skinny Puppy side project.
  7. I know this was a pretty softball interview, especially by BEAST standards, and I had a lot more critical questions, but they mostly depended on him accepting that he hypothetically could be wrong, and he was not willing to do that.

BEASTcast espisode 5 (mp3)

Here is an interview with Sanal Edamaruku. He is the founder and president of Rationalists International and the¬†president¬†to¬†the¬†Indian Rationalist Association and has dedicated much of his life to exposing gurus, godmen, medical quacks, and others making supernatural claims for the frauds they are. In 2008, he challenged a tantrik to kill him live on television before an audience of several hundred million people. Most recently, he’s drawn attention for his public criticism of Sathya Sai Baba, a very famous and influential “godman” who died recently.

Here is the Rationalist International.

Here is the Indian Rationalist Association.

Here is Guru Busters, a documentary featuring Edamaruku and other prominent Indian skeptics.

Here is Edamaruku’s recent article, “India would have been a better place without Sathya Sai Baba.”

WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE

March 15th, 2011 by

The Earth-Spirit exposition is this flea market of New Age products and ideas which pops up around once a year. So I felt I had to go to find out what it’s all about.

The way we originally wanted to cover this at The BEAST was to register as a vendor, get our own table, and sell “Hitting You In The Face With A Stick” therapy. But this would require actual money up front, so it never ended up happening. Also you might have noticed we’ve been busy with other issues at the moment. (more…)

BEASTcast espisode 4 (mp3)

Here is an interview with Eartha Melzer. She is a reporter for the Michigan Messenger and has been covering recent “budget repair” legislation in Michigan which almost makes Scott Walker look sane by comparison.

Top 11 Ways The BEAST is better than James O'Keefe

March 9th, 2011 by

Because the MSM cannot figure it out

So, James O’Keefe got some NPR people to say that liberals are smarter than conservatives and that Tea Partiers are sometimes racists. Big scoop. Those are just facts, known-knowns, and the undercover sting revealed very little regarding what NPR execs know about right-wing lunatics.

Comparisons between O’Keefe and Murphy have abounded of late, but we’re here to clear up why our pranks are so much better than his and why that kid sucks: (more…)

BEASTcast: Episode 2 (mp3)

Here is an interview with Alexander Zaitchik. He is the author of the book Common Nonsense: Glenn Beck and the Triumph of Ignorance. He’s also written for The eXile, New Republic, The Nation, Wired, NY Press, Reason, Mother Jones, The BEAST, and many others. We talk about his newest article in the current (March) issue of Rolling Stone, which is about the deranged talk radio host Alex Jones.

Next week we’ll have some material from Murphy’s trip to Madison, so stay tuned for that. You can subscribe to the BEASTcast by using this link in iTunes or any other podcast subscription software.

Scott Walker and Rush Limbaugh are lying scumbags

February 27th, 2011 by

The common conservative response to our recent story on Governor Scott Walker is that it merely proves that Walker has been saying the same thing publicly that he’s been saying privately, and that there was therefore no news value to it. The claim was first made by the Governor himself, when he initially confirmed that it was in fact his voice on the audio recording we posted: (more…)

The SPJ's double standards

February 27th, 2011 by

The “Society of Professional Journalists” is pretty upset with the way that nobody covering the story seems to get angry enough about how Murphy was deceptive in his talk with Governor Walker. They cite their own ethical code in that journalists should be “honest, fair and courageous in gathering, reporting and interpreting news.” (more…)

The Beasties: The King's Speech

February 24th, 2011 by

We’ve finally arrived at the end – the last movie nominated for Best Picture and therefore the Beasties. It is a film about how, in a world where most of the global population lived under a repressive colonial rule in abject poverty and with no hope for a sustainable future, one overpriveleged bratty monarch battled against all odds to overcome his slightly embarrassing speech impediment. So it’s a British movie, if you ¬†hadn’t put that together already. As if any other country in the world would find inspiration in a story like that.

I have composed a poem for the occasion of reviewing this movie. You may read it now:
